Project Home Unity is a grassroots community organisation aimed at providing support tailored to LGBTQIA+ identifying individuals. Our current work involves comprehensive home-based support for individuals with different physical, mental health, and social needs, including support work, support coordination, and group programs. The goal of social support is to empower the client(s) to live independently, achieve their personal goals, integrate into their community, and cultivate a supportive network within their community.

We’re looking for dedicated, passionate support workers with knowledge and experience of the social issues facing LGBTQIA+ community members to join our supportive, close-knit team!

About the role

This position is responsible for delivering tailored support to LGBTQIA+ individuals with complex needs to live life independently, achieve their personal goals, attend appointments and social groups, and cultivate a supportive network within their community.

Duties may include:

  • Providing physical and emotional support to people living with disability.
  • Assisting clients with domestic tasks, self-care activities, personal administrative tasks, and other related activities in their home and community.
  • Assisting clients with transport and accessing the community.
  • Maintaining a positive, friendly, and professional relationship with clients.
  • Performing other reasonable duties within your scope of capability where required.
  • Maintaining professional case notes and attending staff meetings.

Requirements for the role

We would love to hear from anyone who possesses the following traits:

  • A down to earth disposition
  • Personal/professional experience supporting people with high support needs, disabilities, or mental health needs
  • Respect, compassion, and patience
  • Ability to work independently and adapt to a multitude of situations
  • Knowledge and understanding of the issues and challenges facing LGBTQIA+ community members, particularly in the context of life with disabilities
  • Dedication to professional development and growth
  • Driver's license and own car

Experience

  • Highly desirable - Experience (personal or professional) supporting neurodivergent individuals with emotional regulation, communication, and executive function
  • Highly desirable - Experience (personal or professional) supporting people with different physical, mental health, and/or social needs

Qualifications and Certifications

  • First Aid Certificate
  • National Police Check
  • NDIS Worker Screening Check (desirable)
  • Working With Children Check (desirable)
