Job Description
These positions are located at a Forest Service Research Station. The incumbents serve as a Program Manager with responsibility for the development of a scientific research program and management of assigned program area(s). Duties listed below are at the Full Performance level- GS-15.
Serves as a technical expert and coordinator in providing intellectual leadership and focus on the unit’s research.
Incumbent assesses the impact of substantive programs and policies-including legislation, new USDA and FS policy, and State and private sector policies related to forestry research and resource management-on assigned projects.
Selects and promulgates research priorities based upon the program area(s) assigned and Station guidelines.
Determines most economical means of meeting the Program and Station objectives within fiscal and legal constraints and takes action to ensure these means are followed.
Submits and justifies requests for major expenditures to higher levels of leadership.
The incumbent monitors and evaluates the quality and effectiveness of the assigned research program.
Supervisory Responsibilities 25% or more of the time.
Must be a U.S. Citizen or National. Males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.
