Job Description
This position supports the Foreign Service Grievance Board (S/FSGB) established by the FS Act of 1980. FSBG decides appeals filed by Foreign Service Officers and Specialists serving in foreign affairs agencies. The Special Assistant works for the Board under the general direction of the Board's Executive Secretary and requires broad familiarity with applicable law and regulation, as well as knowledge of agency-level grievance personnel and administrative policy and practices.
Manages assigned grievance appeal cases from receipt, through processing, hearing, document control and accessibility, decision-making and resolution.
Coordinates, participates in, and facilitates case panel meetings, settlement efforts, telephone and video conferences, mediation sessions, and hearings.
Provides policy, programmatic, and technical advice and guidance to colleagues and the Board, composed of Secretary-of-State appointees. Coordinates and disseminates program directives, policies, procedures, and other materials.
Maintains cordial and productive liaison with grievants and grievant's representatives, members of the Board, and the Board's counsel.
