Job Description

Responsibilities:

  • Setting out and survey control along the alignment; feeding site conditions back to the design team
  • Supervising earthworks, drainage, subbase, base and surface dressing
  • Culvert and side drain construction, including lined drains through settlements, mitre and scupper drains, and erosion protection at outfalls
  • Supervising reinforced concrete works at the river crossings - falsework, reinforcement, pours, curing - while keeping the existing crossing open to traffic
  • Running the testing regime - density, CBR, moisture content, concrete cubes - and holding the line when results fail
  • Materials control from borrow pits and quarries: sourcing, sampling, approval, haulage records
  • Site records: daily diaries, measurement sheets, as-built information, materials receipts
  • Technical queries, method statements, and health and safety on your sections

Other Requirements:

  • You report to the Assistant Project Manager and deal daily with the supervising consultant's site staff.
  • When a defect is raised, you are the person who explains what happened and what the fix will be.
  • You will also work within a live right-of-way through inhabited settlements, where every metre of cross-section taken has consequences for somebody's property.
  • Sensible engineering judgment here matters as much as the technical work.

What We Are Looking For

  • Five years minimum in civil works, with at least two on roads - earthworks through to pavement.
  • You should have personally set out a road alignment, run a compaction testing regime, and produced site records that stood up during a payment dispute.
  • Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Technology and Management, or related field
  • Confident with level and total station
  • Fluent in the applicable road standard specification
  • Reinforced concrete bridge or major culvert experience, strong advantage
  • Able to write a clear technical letter
  • Valid driver's licence
  • Judgment about when work is good enough and when it isn't, and the nerve to act on it

Other Information: You will be resident at the site camp for the duration. Nearest sizeable town is a drive away.

What We Offer

  • Salary negotiable and based on what you bring.
  • Site accommodation, transport, medical cover, and leave rotation.
  • You will finish with a full corridor from clearing to surfacing, plus permanent bridge works, on your record.
