About JOY Media
JOY Media is Australia's LGBTIQA+ community media organisation, listed on the Australian Charities and Not-for-Profit Commission Register, dedicated to fostering a more inclusive society.
Our mission is to amplify diverse voices, reduce isolation and celebrate the rich culture and achievements of the rainbow community. We engage audiences through JOY 94.9 (on FM, DAB+ and the JOY App), as well as our online livestreams and podcasts, accessible 24/7 at joy.org.au.
Our sustainability relies on income-generating services such as sponsorship and live broadcasting, along with grants, donations, memberships and philanthropic support.
Based in St Kilda, our small team of paid staff and dedicated volunteers collaborate to deliver engaging news, information, music and entertainment to our rainbow community.
ABOUT THE ROLE
JOY is powered by over 200 volunteers who create, deliver and support everything we do on air and online. The Project Coordinator, Volunteer Development is a new role focused on strengthening that program at its core, reviewing where engagement is working and where volunteers are dropping off, and building clearer pathways for people to join, grow their skills and stay involved.
Reporting to the General Manager, this is a hands on role combining relationship management, negotiation, training, administration and reporting. You'll work closely with the JOY team to lift volunteer retention and satisfaction, design a structured feedback system to understand why disengagement happens, and help grow a more diverse and intersectional volunteer cohort.
ABOUT YOU
We're looking for someone with real experience leading or inspiring volunteer teams, who understands that a strong volunteer program is built on genuine relationships, not just rosters and reporting. You'll bring:
- Strong experience managing or leading volunteer teams, with a track record of building purposeful, committed participation
- Confidence analysing engagement or attrition data and turning findings into practical recommendations
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively across staff, volunteers, management and governance
- Comfort using databases and platforms such as Salesforce and Moodle to design and deliver training pathways
- Strong relationship management and negotiation skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across a diverse organisation
- A genuine understanding of the LGBTIQA+ community, its strengths, challenges and history
A current police check and Working with Children's Check (or ability to obtain them) are required, along with JOY membership.
If you're a natural relationship builder who wants to shape how volunteers experience JOY, and you're excited to contribute to inclusive storytelling at a vibrant not-for-profit, we want to hear from you!
