ABOUT YOUR ORGANISATION
Burnie Works exists to support long-term, community-led change in Burnie.
We bring people, organisations and systems together to respond to complex local challenges across education, families, employment and community wellbeing. Our work is grounded in the belief that lasting change happens when communities lead, relationships are strong, and systems are willing to listen, learn and adapt.
We work alongside community members, service providers, government, schools, businesses and local partners to build shared action around what matters most to Burnie. We are curious, generous, brave, accountable and inclusive — and we are committed to making space for voices that are too often unheard.
This is practical, relational, place-based work. It is about helping ideas become action, keeping people connected, and supporting the conditions for a more connected, informed and empowered community.
ABOUT THE ROLE
This role exists to help keep Burnie Works moving.
As our Operations & Communications Support Officer, you’ll be at the centre of a small, busy team, supporting the everyday coordination, communication and administration that helps our work happen well.
It’s a genuinely varied role. One day you might be preparing content for social media or updating digital platforms; the next you might be supporting an event, coordinating a meeting, updating project documentation, helping with reporting, or following up actions with partners.
You’ll play an important role in keeping people, projects and information connected. Your writing skills will matter — particularly for reports, documentation and clear communication — but this is not a narrow writing role. It’s a broad, hands-on support role for someone who enjoys variety, can juggle competing priorities, and takes pride in helping a team get good work done.
You’ll also have the opportunity to sit close to strategic relationship work, helping provide continuity, follow-through and organisational memory across important conversations.
In short: you’ll be one of the people who helps community-led ideas become coordinated action.
ABOUT YOU
You’re a sharp organiser, confident communicator and practical problem-solver who enjoys being useful in lots of different ways.
You might have experience in administration, communications, project or program support, community services, events, operations, or a similar coordination role. You don’t need to have done this exact job before — but you will need to be comfortable working across a broad mix of tasks in a small team environment.
You’ll bring:
- Strong written communication skills, with the ability to write clearly for different audiences
- Experience supporting coordination, administration, projects or programs
- Confidence using digital tools such as Microsoft Office, social media platforms, Canva, WordPress, a CRM, or similar systems
- Good organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities
- A practical, flexible approach and willingness to pitch in where needed
- Confidence communicating with a range of people, including partners, community members and colleagues
- Attention to detail, follow-through and a commitment to doing what you say you’ll do
- An interest in community-led change, collaboration and making systems work better for people
You’ll suit this role if you enjoy variety, like being close to the action, and are comfortable moving between big-picture purpose and everyday practical tasks.
A commitment to inclusion, community voice and respectful relationships is essential.
You will also need to hold, or be willing to obtain, a Working with Vulnerable People Registration. A police check may also be required.
ADDITIONAL BENEFITS
At Burnie Works, you’ll be part of a purpose-driven team working on meaningful, community-led change in Burnie.
The role offers:
- Full-time employment based in Burnie
- SCHADS Award Level 4 classification
- Flexible work arrangements
- A supportive, collaborative small-team environment
- Opportunities to learn and grow through varied work
- The chance to work closely with community, partners and systems leaders
- Meaningful work that contributes to a more connected and empowered local community
