Support Aboriginal Mothers, Babies & Families

Mungabareena Aboriginal Corporation (MAC) is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people across the Ovens Murray region. Our work is guided by principles of self‑determination, cultural respect, community leadership and improved wellbeing for Aboriginal families and communities.

Due to continued growth, we are seeking passionate and dedicated people to join our team as a Koorie Maternity Support Worker Part-Time | Flexible Hours.

Support Aboriginal women throughout pregnancy and the postnatal period through culturally safe engagement, advocacy, health education, referral pathways and care coordination. You will work closely with hospitals, maternity services and community supports to improve outcomes for Aboriginal mothers and babies while strengthening connections to culture, family and community.

About You

You are passionate about improving outcomes for Aboriginal women, babies, children and families and are committed to delivering culturally safe, strengths-based and trauma-informed support.

You will bring:

Essential

  • Relevant qualifications in Community Services, Social Work, Youth Work, Human Services, Aboriginal Health or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women, children and families.
  • Strong understanding of Aboriginal culture, self-determination and culturally safe practice.
  • Experience in case management, family support, community services, maternal health or related areas.
  • Knowledge of child wellbeing, child safety, Child Protection and mandatory reporting requirements.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with families, Elders, community members and service providers.
  • Experience providing advocacy, referrals, service coordination and support to families.
  • Strong communication, record keeping and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work independently, manage priorities and exercise sound professional judgement.
  • Commitment to culturally safe, child-focused and family-centred practice.

Desirable

  • Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander identity.
  • Experience working within an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation (ACCO).
  • Experience supporting families involved with or at risk of Child Protection involvement.
  • Experience providing parenting support, early intervention or family strengthening services.
  • Experience conducting outreach and home-based support with families.
  • Understanding of trauma-informed, strengths-based and family-centred practice frameworks.
  • Knowledge of family violence, mental health, alcohol and other drugs, housing and other factors impacting vulnerable families.
  • Experience working collaboratively with hospitals, maternity services, maternal and child health services, early childhood services and Child Protection.

  • Working with Children Check (VIC)
  • National Police Check
  • Pre-employment Health Declaration
