About the Organisation

The Alcohol and Other Drug Consumer & Community Coalition (AODCCC) is the peak body for alcohol and other drug, consumer and community led Systemic Advocacy in Western Australia. Our aim is to empower the voices of consumers, their families, carers, and significant others, to promote the interests, education, and welfare of those affected by alcohol and other drug use.

About the Executive Manager Role

Reporting to the AODCCC Board, the Executive Manager is responsible for providing strategic leadership, organisational management, sector advocacy, and stakeholder engagement to advance the organisation's mission and objectives.

The Executive Manager will lead a small multidisciplinary team, ensure sound governance and fiscal management, build strategic partnerships, and represent the organisation at state and national forums.

This position is pivotal in advancing the Alcohol or Other Drug Consumer and Community Coalition (AODCCC) as a leading peak body within the AOD sector. The Executive Manager will ensure the AOD lived and living experience voice (including families cares and significant others) is central to policy development, service planning, and evaluation. The role also involves public advocacy and leadership—fostering courageous conversations that align with the AODCCC’s vision, mission, and values, while delivering outcomes under the Mental Health Commission (MHC) Service Agreement.

Applicants should demonstrate

1. Strategic Leadership

Proven experience in a senior leadership or executive management role, including responsibility for strategic planning, organisational development, and successful achievement of organisational objectives.

2. Knowledge of the AOD and Health Sectors

Demonstrated understanding of the Alcohol and Other Drug sector, harm reduction principles, consumer participation frameworks, and contemporary health and social policy issues.

3. Commitment to Lived and Living Experienced Leadership

A strong commitment to consumer rights, lived and living experience leadership, co-design, and meaningful, authentic consumer engagement.

4. Governance and Management Committee Relations

Demonstrated experience working effectively with Management Committees and Boards, including supporting governance processes, strategic planning, and organisational accountability.

5. Financial and Operational Management

Experience managing organisational budgets, financial reporting, funding agreements, grants, risk management, and operational systems.

6. Advocacy and Policy Development

Proven ability to influence policy, prepare submissions, engage decision-makers, and advocate effectively on behalf of consumers and communities.

7. Stakeholder Engagement and Partnerships

Advanced relationship-building skills with government agencies, community organisations, service providers, funders, and consumer representatives.

8. People Leadership

Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, mentor, and manage staff while fostering a positive and inclusive organisational culture.

9. Communication Skills

Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking, media engagement, report writing, and presentation skills.

10. Project and Change Management

Demonstrated experience leading complex projects, organisational change initiatives, and continuous improvement activities.

Desirable Criteria

  • Tertiary qualifications in public health, social work, management, community development, psychology, health promotion, or a related discipline.
  • Personal lived or living experience of alcohol and other drug use and/or strong connection to consumer-led practice.
  • Experience within a peak body, advocacy organisation, or member-based organisation.
  • Knowledge of government funding and commissioning environments.

OTHER EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS

  • Must hold Australian citizenship or be a permanent resident of Australia.
  • Must hold a current driver’s license, have a working vehicle and willingness to use it for work related tasks. (All work related vehicle usage will be reimbursed).
  • National Police Clearance (obtained no less than 3 months from date of employment) (Please note criminal record will not be an automatic barrier to employment)

This role is a full time, permanent position

Level 7, Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Award.
