Our evidence-backed model combines physical movement, outdoor engagement, and peer connection through free weekly walks across the country.
- Rapid National Trajectory: In under 24 months, Mum Walk expanded from a local initiative to over 75 active communities nationwide.
- 2026 Horizon: Scaling to 100 local Mum Walk communities, embedding community-based preventative support into the national maternal health landscape.
About the role
Role Type: Non-Executive Director (Voluntary)
Time Commitment: ~10–12 hours per month
Location: Australia-wide (Remote / Hybrid)
Purpose of the Role
The Board Director – Philanthropy exists to accelerate Mum Walk’s growth by directly unlocking major funding, diversifying our revenue streams, and building robust philanthropic pipelines.
Mum Walk is transitioning from an early-stage movement into a national health promotion charity. With key board members currently taking maternity leave, we are seeking a deeply connected, hands-on board director who is willing to actively contribute beyond governance by opening doors, leveraging their networks, shaping funding strategy and supporting major philanthropic and government funding opportunities.
the Ideal Director Profile
We are seeking an active, networked fundraising or government relations leader who:
- Is a Deeply Connected Fundraiser: Brings warm, established relationships within the Australian philanthropic landscape (especially Private Ancillary Funds, trusts, and foundations focused on maternal health, early intervention, and community).
- Has a Proven Track Record: Demonstrated experience in building out philanthropic pipelines, authoring successful applications, and establishing long-term funder relationships.
- Is an Active Execution Partner: Thrives in a dynamic, early-stage environment and is willing to support draft proposals, host partner meetings, and drive funding opportunities directly.
- Is Passionate About Improving the Mental Health of Mums: Lived experience of motherhood or maternal mental health is welcomed but not essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Pipeline Development: Work with the founder to build, prioritise, and manage a high-quality pipeline of philanthropic individuals, trusts, foundations, and corporate partners.
- Network Activation & Introductions: Actively open doors to personal and professional networks, making warm introductions on behalf of Mum Walk.
- Pitch & Proposition Creation: Work directly with the Founder to develop and deliver compelling pitch decks, successful grant applications, and cases for support.
- Funder Representation: Be a visible, active member of the board, willing to represent Mum Walk at relevant events and accompany the Founder into key philanthropic pitch meetings
- Revenue Generation: Partner with the executive team to secure significant new philanthropic investment that supports Mum Walk's growth strategy.
Standard Board Responsibilities
- Fulfil fiduciary, legal, and compliance duties under the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC).
- Attend all scheduled Board meetings and actively contribute to strategic discussions.
- Act as a trusted strategic advisor and champion to the Chair, Founder/CEO, and fellow directors during this high-growth phase.
What Success Looks Like in 12 Months
- Fundraising Momentum: Mum Walk secures critical philanthropic funding driven directly by network introductions and successful applications led by this role.
- Funded Pipeline: A thriving, well-qualified pipeline of philanthropic relationships established for multi-year funding.
- Organisational Health: Mum Walk bridges its current board capacity gap, significantly diversifies its revenue, and steps into its next phase as a financially sustainable, nationally recognised health promotion leader.
