This position is located in the Architect of the Capitol (AOC), Office of the Chief of Operations, Executive Director of House Office Buildings, Director of Tenant Services Division, Carpentry Branch. Tour of Duty: 4:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Monday - Friday (hours many change due to operating needs of management). Note: This position is emergency essential; depending on the type of emergency, the employee may be required to report to work during emergency situations. The incumbent serves as Wood Crafter (CNC)-Locksmith Supervisor and shares responsibility with the Wood Crafter (CNC) Supervisor for assigning, directing and reviewing the work of subordinates; evaluating their work performance, planning, scheduling and coordinating work operations; and solving problems related to the work performed by Section employees. Duties include, but are not limited to: Perform administrative and technical supervisory functions for subordinates. Assign duties and evaluate performance. Manage the organizational unit's budget and workload. Develop performance requirements for subordinates and ensure a mutual understanding of the performance standards. Resolve complaints and grievances. Provide leadership to ensure support for equal employment opportunity (EEO) goals and requirements. Serve as an expert in the area of physical security locking systems, capabilities and functions. Work closely with building tenants, architects, and engineers to determine the most suitable security containers and locking devices to be used to solve security problems related to the unique operations of the House of Representatives. Lead subordinates in the installation, maintenance, repair and testing of a full variety of security containers, locking devices (mechanical, electronic, digitized, sensitive, compartmented information facility – SCIF), door hardware (closures, hinges, doorknobs, panic/exit devices), electrified hardware (panic/exit devices, locksets, knobs) and security systems. Program, use, and ensure preventive maintenance is performed on both small and large CNC key machinery and engravers. Make recommendations to and plans for future equipment needs with immediate supervisor. Provide adequate training on CNC equipment to subordinates. Make and repair high grade wooden items such as cabinetry, furniture and decorative woodwork for use in the House Office Buildings. Plan and layout work from specifications, blueprints, rough sketches and verbal instructions, taking into consideration the tooling, durability, cost, strength and appearance characteristics of a variety of softwoods, hardwoods, plywood, veneers and wood substitutes. Perform other related duties as assigned. To be employed by the Architect of the Capitol in a paid position, an individual must meet one of the categories below: A citizen of the United States; A person who is lawfully admitted for permanent residence and is seeking citizenship as outlined in 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)(B); A person who is admitted as a refugee under 8 U.S.C. 1157 or is granted asylum under 8 U.S.C. 1158 and has filed a declaration of intention to become a lawful permanent resident and then a citizen when eligible; A person who owes allegiance to the United States (nationals of American Samoa, Swains Island, and the Northern Mariana Islands, and nationals who meet other requirements described in 8 U.S.C. 1408); or A person who is currently an officer or employee of the Government of the United States.
