The Occupational/Employee Health Nurse (EOH RN) provides support to leadership and other staff members in planning, designing, integrating, implementing, modifying and evaluating the effectiveness of program components and/or services to improve employee health and safety programs through collaborative strategies. The EOH RN focuses on the promotion and restoration of health, prevention of illness and injury, and protection from work-related and environmental hazards
The EOH RN possesses the knowledge related to VHA guidelines and directives, current evidence-based standards of care, compliance guidelines, and local policy related to Delegation of Authority as established by the facility Chief of Staff. Core elements of performance include knowledge and active participation in unit/program and facility level, quality improvement processes as well as customer service programs. The nurse's primary commitment is to the patient, whether an individual, family, group, or community. Major Duties include but are not limited to: Responsible for work-related clinical care, administration, health promotion, disease and injury prevention, education and research Administrative office responsibilities, including but not limited to Employee record keeping, phone and email communication. Remains current on local, regional, and national Policies/Handbooks/Directives related to Occupational Health/Employee Health standards and safety of staff and patients. Understands policy limitations of clinical and occupational health care for work-related conditions that affect the employee or health and safety of co-workers and patients Accountable for the management of population groups or programs within the medical center to optimize employee health and wellbeing, employee safety and operational efficiency Triages and applies a collaborative team approach in identifying, analyzing, and resolving patient care problems. Facilitates delivery of higher level of care if indicated. Collaborates with Infection Prevention in exposure investigations, following protocols for employees. Maintains database and employee tracing of potential and post-exposure incidents (I.E. Tuberculosis, Influenza, COVID-19, etc.) Responsible for Notification of all employees identified as potentially exposed, ordering baseline and follow-up labs, documenting care provided. Educates, advocates, and facilitates awareness about importance of vaccinations throughout facility. In collaboration with HR and Medical officer, supports the processing of new hires and initiates physicals, reviews immunization history, and drug testing in timely manner. Administration & Monitoring of Medications/Immunizations Collection of samples as Federal Urine Specimen Collectors. U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
