The Nurse Oncology / Hematology Registered Nurse (RN) is a clinical expert who uses advanced specialized knowledge and judgement for delivery of high quality and evidence based care to oncology patients and their families. This is an open continuous announcement. Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis and qualified candidates will be considered as vacancies become available. Duties include but are not limited to: Assessing patients pre, during, and post-treatment. Administering chemotherapy/immunotherapy, IV fluids, IV electrolytes, and blood products. Reviewing lab results and their implications. Safely and effectively performing nursing procedures and using patient care equipment. Possessing in-depth knowledge of the expected side effects of cancer treatments. Assessing patient's learning needs, learning preference and readiness to learn. Educating patients about their disease, treatments, and expected side effects. Recognizing overt abnormal signs and symptoms and/or changes in patients' condition and responds appropriately. Organizing relevant referrals for patients to other healthcare providers such as dieticians, social workers, or speech and language pathologists. Administering research and clinical trial drugs, working directly with the provider, pharmacy, and research coordinators. Providing direct patient care: assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care based on age-specific components. Assuming responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient transition through the continuum of care, patient and family education, patient self-management after discharge. Determining the appropriate delegation of tasks consistent with the nurse's obligation to provide optimal care (ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses). Using the Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS) per policy, as well as any future patient documentation programs. Performing other duties as assigned.
