The Prosthetics Clerk is a member of Prosthetics and Sensory Aids Service (PSAS) located at the James A Lovell. FHCC, North Chicago, IL. ***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** Major duties and responsibilities include: Using knowledge of programs, rules and regulations, and home medical equipment and prosthetic/orthotic devices to assist visitors with questions and inquiries regarding prosthetic items. Responding to vendor and veteran inquires. Responsible for the Eyeglass Procurement program which includes ordering, purchasing, and reconciling obligations applied to the program. Creating purchase orders, closing the purchase order transactions, and closing monthly obligation in an automated computer system. Locating consults and determining eligibility and entitlement for prosthetic items for Veterans; When required, selecting the appropriate item from inventory to issue to veteran. Determining when patient education is needed and referring veteran to appropriate clinician for training. Responsible for posting notes regarding status of order and for closing the consults when appropriate. Utilizing invoices, verifying accuracy of charges, reporting discrepancies to vendors, and scanning invoices. Correctly entering required Health Care Procedural Coding System (HCPCS) and the VA unique codes necessary for the National Prosthetics Patient Database (NPPD). Using office automation equipment such as fax machines, computers, printers, scanners, and copiers. Maintaining adequate supplies and quantities of forms and / or general office supplies. Typing correspondence (letters, memos, minutes, etc.) to meet time frame issued by supervisor using correct grammar, spelling and publication. Performing other duties as assigned. Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959 Physical Requirements: Work is primarily sedentary and is carried out in an office setting. The job functions require prolonged periods of working at a computer terminal. Ability to retrieve equipment from a storage room is required. Climbing associated with stocking of equipment and other items in storage areas is necessary. Employee may carry/lift items weighting up fifty (50) pounds. Normal safety precautions are adequate. The work involves moderate discomfort when visiting sites away from the office.
