The Hematologist/Oncologist at Robley Rex VA Medical Center provides comprehensive care to Veterans with hematologic and oncologic disorders. The incumbent is responsible for evaluation, diagnosis, management, and follow-up of patients referred to Hematology/Oncology services, participates in teaching activities, and works collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes. Duties and Responsibilities: 1.Clinical Care: Provide expert assessment, diagnosis, and management of patients with hematologic and oncologic diseases, including but not limited to anemia, leukemias, lymphomas, multiple myeloma, solid tumors, and other blood disorders. Perform inpatient and outpatient consultations within the Hematology/Oncology Section. Participate in the multidisciplinary tumor board and collaborate with surgical, radiation, palliative, social work, and pharmacy teams. 2. Procedures: Perform bone marrow aspiration and biopsy, lumbar puncture, and other Hematology/Oncology procedures as indicated. Ensure timely and accurate interpretation of laboratory and pathology results. 3. Chemotherapy and Other Treatments: Prescribe and supervise chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, and other hematologic/oncologic treatments; monitor for adverse effects and adjust treatment as clinically indicated. Educate patients and families regarding disease processes, treatment options, and potential outcomes. 4. Documentation and Compliance: Maintain timely and accurate documentation in CPRS (Computerized Patient Record System) in accordance with VA policies and regulatory requirements. Ensure compliance with clinical practice guidelines and participate in quality assurance initiatives. 5. Education and Teaching: Provide teaching and training to medical students, residents, and other health professionals. Participate in continuing medical education, maintain board certification, and stay current with advances in the field. 6. Research and Scholarly Activities (as applicable): Participate in research projects, clinical trials, or other scholarly activities related to Hematology and Oncology, if desired or directed. 7. Administrative Duties: Participate in departmental meetings, committees, and performance improvement activities. Assist in the development and implementation of policies to improve Hematology/Oncology services. 8. Other Duties: Carry out additional tasks as assigned by the Chief, Medicine Service or Medical Center Director related to clinical care, education, research, and administration. Supervisory Controls: The Hematologist/Oncologist reports to the Chief, Medicine Service and is subject to clinical oversight and performance review as per VA policy. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply. Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME) Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement) Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification) Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting Work Schedule: 0700-1730, 0700-1530, 0730-1600 U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
