Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP): This position is eligible for the EDRP, a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of your start date. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application. Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME) Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement) Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification) Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting Geriatrician Provider Duties: Conduct comprehensive geriatric assessments for elderly patients, including physical, cognitive, emotional, and functional evaluations. Diagnose and manage acute and chronic medical conditions specific to older adults. Develop individualized care plans in collaboration with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams. Review, reconcile, and optimize medication regimens to minimize polypharmacy and adverse drug events. Provide consultative or primary outpatient, inpatient, and/or long-term care to geriatric patients. Assess and manage neurocognitive disorders, including dementia, delirium, and depression. Coordinate patient care with other healthcare providers, specialists, therapists, pharmacists, and social workers. Evaluate and address functional decline, falls, mobility issues, and frailty in elderly patients. Facilitate referrals to specialty services, community agencies, rehabilitation programs, and support resources. Conduct discussions regarding prognosis, goals of care, advance care planning, and advance directives with patients and families. Provide education and counseling to patients and caregivers on disease management and preventive care. Document all patient encounters and care plans accurately and timely in the electronic health record (EHR). Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings, case conferences, and quality improvement initiatives. Ensure compliance with facility policies, procedures, and accreditation and regulatory requirements. Provide teaching and supervision to medical students, residents, fellows, and other healthcare staff regarding geriatric medicine. Engage in continuing medical education and stay current on best practices and guidelines in geriatric care. Participate in research and scholarly activities as appropriate. Perform additional clinical and administrative duties as assigned by leadership. Work Schedule: M-F, 8-4:30pm Bargaining Unit: This position is a AFGE Bargaining Unit position.
