This position is eligible for Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. The medicine service is responsible for the medicine subspecialties with inpatient and outpatient consultation and procedural care, dermatology, hospital and ICU/CCU medicine, and an emergency department. Responsibilities will include working with the Chief of Medicine in an administrative leadership role to assure excellence in our 3-tier mission of clinical care, education, and research. The physician would be anticipated to provide clinical care in an area of general internal medicine, an internal medicine subspecialty, dermatology, or in emergency medicine as part of non-administrative work. Duties include, but are not limited to the following: Collaborating with colleagues in developing, implementing, and evaluating philosophy, objectives, policies, and standards essential for delivering optimal care to patients. Mentors and supports physicians, nurturing their professional growth and development. Guide the development and implementation of programs such as medical practice, professional standards, personnel issues, quality, and performance improvement. Responsible for recruiting and hiring clinicians; monitoring provider performance and medical outcomes. Recommend clinical privileges for each member of the service and engages in clinical service activities in his/her area of specialization. Represents the institution in medical conferences, seminars, and professional associations to stay up to date of the latest advancements. Collaborates with other service chiefs and program managers at VA HCS. The Deputy Chief of Medicine can sit on several important committees; both at the medical center and VA regional levels. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8am - 4:30pm. Schedule subject to change based on facility needs..
