The Medicine Service at the Salisbury VA Healthcare system (SVAHCS), Salisbury NC is seeking a dynamic Physician Leader with Internal Medicine (or subspecialty) training to function as the Deputy Chief of Medicine. The service is one of the largest programs among Complexity 1b VHA facilities offering specialty care at three separate locations and employs over 100 specialists. The service has robust clinical, teaching and research activities with strong affiliation with Wake Forest University.
1. With the ACOS, the ACOM is responsible for the quality of patient care including access, efficiency, effectiveness, and appropriateness of care and treatment rendered by all Medical Service providers. 2. Demonstrates leadership in interpreting and supporting VACO, VISN, and local station mission, vision, and values, while operating in accordance with Veterans Health Administration (VHA) policies, facility and VISN policies, and standards of federal professional and accrediting agencies external to VHA. 3. With the ACOS, the ACOM is responsible for continuous maintenance, assessment, and improvement of the quality of care and services provided by all Medical Service staff. 4. As an alternate representative of the ACOS, the ACOM may report to the Professional Standards Board recommendations concerning classification, appointment, and delineation of clinical privileges for: All Medical Staff providers. Providers requesting privileges in Medical Service. 5. With the ACOS, the ACOM ensures continuing competence of Medical Service providers with clinical privileges by: Performing Focused and Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluations for providers with clinical privileges in Medical Service. Reporting these evaluations to the Professional Standards Board. 6. With the ACOS, the ACOM will participate in recruitment, interview, selection, hiring and orientation of new providers on the Medical Service. 7. With the ACOS, the ACOM may be tasked to assist with Employee Relation/Labor Relation issues. The ACOM may need to interact with AFGE representatives in pre-decisional matters. 8. Provides independent advice and recommendations to ACOS regarding new, innovative, or needed patient care services to assure the goals of best practices and excellence throughout the spectrum of services delivered by the Medical Service. 9. Along with the Service Chief, provides direction and support to Medical Service staff regarding equipment technology, policies and procedures employed by the Salisbury VA Healthcare System; ensures that all requirements of regulatory agencies such as the Joint Commission are met. 10. When requested by the ACOS, interacts with staff to resolve interpersonal disputes. 11. When requested, or in the absence of the ACOS provides coverage for the full range of responsibilities of the ACOS. May chair Medical Service meetings or attend other committee meetings when requested as alternate for the ACOS and will advise Medical Service staff of the recommendations and implications of committee actions as they relate to the Medical Service and the larger facility and VISN goals. 12. Assists with the teaching, education, and research programs of Medical Service. 13. Assists the ACOS to implement the policies of the Medical Center Bylaws, and Rules and Regulations. 14. Assists in the preparation of reports pertaining to Medical Service as required by VA regulations, station policy, and Clinical Executive Board recommendations. 15. Serves on hospital committees and task forces, both standing and ad hoc, as requested. 16. Performs mortality reviews and participates in monthly Opportunities for Improvement conferences. 17. Performs peer reviews and participates in Peer Review Committee. 18. Functions as a medical officer and serve as attending physician for patient care within the scope of privileges granted. Takes call within the scope of privileges granted. 19. Participates in weekly Department of Medicine Administrative Team meetings, bi weekly section chiefs meeting and monthly meetings with HCC leadership teams with the Chief of Medicine. 20. Provides accurate, concise, timely documentation of care in the electronic medical record (Computerized Patient Record System -CPRS) on each patient care occurrence. 21. Attends other committees (i.e., surgical M&M) as the ACOS Representative as requested by the ACOS. VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package. VHA Physician Total Rewards.
