The Iowa City Veterans Affairs Health Care System (ICVAHCS) is seeking a Full-Time, Physician - Community Living Center Medical Director to join the Rehabilitation and Extended Care Service Line at the VAMC in Iowa City, Iowa. Note: This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT through November 9, 2026. The first referral cut-off is September 7, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. EST, with monthly cut-offs on the 1st. This is done in the context of healing relationships and healing environments and a connection back to the Veteran's community. This aligns with the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) Mission Statement to Honor America's Veterans by providing exceptional health care that improves their health and well-being. Duties may include, but are not limited to: Oversee the service, quality, and safety of the Community Living Center(s) along with leadership members of the CLC and the organization. Serve as the CLC Attending, ensure provider coverage, clinical oversight, direct patient care, including routine rounds on all CLC residents. Supervises medical providers (physician and/or certified registered nurse practitioner and/or physician assistant, including residents/fellows) within the CLC. Understand, manage, monitor productivity and report data related to/from CLC (local and national). Serves as a member of the GEC Leaders Group (meeting monthly and ad hoc). Work closely with all members of the CLC interdisciplinary team including, Nurse Managers, Assistant Nurse Managers, Rehab team, and others to ensure efficient and safe daily operations of the Community Living Center(s). Serve as Chair or Co-Chair of CLC Steering Committee. Lead CLC strategic planning, performance improvement, quality assurance, continuous survey readiness, and committee/work groups in collaboration. Ensure VERA reimbursement matches the care provided on the CLC each year. Assist with responses and management of Action Items, Issue Briefs, Congressionals, and all other correspondence related to the CLC. Assist with response and management of all emergencies as it relates to CLC. Addresses performance concerns and implements corrective actions in accordance with VA policies. Promotes a culture of accountability, professionalism, and continuous learning within the providers' team. Provide mentorship and support to providers. Takes part of the Focused and Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluations (FPPE/OPPE) and performance evaluations. Review and assist with CLC consultations from outpatients, hospital or from non-VA settings along with IDT members and facilitate admissions to the CLC. In collaboration with the Nurse Manager oversees the CLC admissions process to make final determinations on CLC applications for admission. Serve as one local point of contact and subject matter expert as it relates to nursing home care. Ensure safe transitions of care and continuity of services for all CLC residents. Participates in a rotation call schedule with other providers for the CLC and our Hospice & Palliative Care Program. VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package. VHA Physician Total Rewards. Education Debt Reduction Program (Student Loan Repayment): This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application. Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of annual paid time offer per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME) Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement) Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8am-4:30pm with rotational call after hours, weekends and Holidays.
