The Long Beach VA Health Care System is recruiting for (1) Inpatient Pharmacy Technician to perform a variety of tasks, including processing, preparing, filling/dispensing, and labeling medication orders for the pharmacist to review repackaged unit doses, sterile parenteral medications/solutions compounding, replenishes/dispenses/delivers medications utilizing the Automated Medication Storage and Distribution Devices (AMSDDs) and delivering medications throughout the healthcare system. VA Careers - Pharmacy: https://youtube.com/embed/Fn_ickNBEws Duties may include but are not limited to: Performs a variety of complex technical functions following USP 797 guidelines for the compounding of all sterile preparations, including uncomplicated and/or complicated parenteral admixtures to be delivered in the form of large volume, small volume, infusion syringe or other as requested, ophthalmic, cardioplegic, TPN, large & small volume IV solutions, and PCAs. Labels and delivers to the appropriate storage area, promptly, all sterile piggybacks and admixtures used in the VA Long Beach Medical Center. Delivers medications and pharmacy supply items, including hazardous medications and controlled substances, for use in different hospital units and clinics as identified by the pharmacist in charge (PIC), direct supervisor, and the lead pharmacy technician. Performs unit dosing in accordance with the VA directives, USP, and other regulatory agents' guidelines. Accurately interprets, fills, and readies prescriptions with appropriate medications for pharmacist verification. Regularly acts as the first-line communication between the pharmacy service, medical staff, and Veterans to serve patients' needs either in-person or over a communication device (e.g., telephone, Vocera, MS Teams, and pagers). Actively participates in the Daily Management System (DMS). Reports on performance improvement activities' progress, monitor metrics and participates in departmental meetings. Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of federal and state laws governing pharmacy practices, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements and guidelines in the dispensing and handling of medications.
