Advance in Hire May Be Authorized Advance Leave Accrual Authorized This is a Direct Hire Solicitation Perform a wide variety of clinical laboratory test procedures within the Microbiology section in the Department of Pathology and Area Laboratory Services (DPALS), a College of American Pathology (CAP) accredited full service laboratory. Perform microbiology tests and examinations using both automated and manual techniques and involving the operation of machines, instruments and equipment common to the microbiology specialization. Receive specimens from Specimen Processing, clinics, wards, Troop Medical Clinics (TMCs), and other DOD facilities. Operation of instruments and equipment used in performing tests and examinations involve function verification checks, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and making fine and delicate adjustments when controls exceed defined tolerance limits. Monitor inventory of consumable supplies, reagents and controls, allowing sufficient lead time to obtain additional supplies prior to exhausting stock. Assist in training newly assigned civilian and military laboratory personnel in the performance of microbiology tasks and the related quality assurance, instrument maintenance and implications of various results. Accept referrals of abnormal or unusual results or procedural observations from lower grade personnel.
