The Battle Creek VA Medical Center is recruiting for a Medical Records Technician (MRT) (Health Information Technician (HIT)) within the Health Information Management section of the Business Operations Service. MRTs (HIT) perform incomplete health record analysis and are responsible for reviewing, analyzing, abstracting, maintaining, extracting, and compiling information from health records.
Duties include, but are not limited to: Review, analyze, abstract, maintain, extract, and compile information from health records with minimal supervision. Perform quantitative and qualitative analysis of health record documentation to ensure accuracy, completeness, timeliness, consistency, and compliance with industry standards, policies, laws, regulations, and accreditation requirements. Coordinate and conduct health record review activities to meet external accreditation requirements and medical center performance measures. Communicate regularly with staff across the medical center regarding delinquent or incomplete records, and notify clinical providers of necessary documentation corrections. Prepare reports, calculate departmental statistics, and track the status of incomplete/delinquent records; submit reports to appropriate administrative and clinical leadership to ensure deficiencies are resolved. Review incomplete records for individuals clearing the facility. Coordinate and monitor medical speech recognition/transcription processes; verify, troubleshoot, correct, and upload documentation to ensure accuracy and completeness. Serve within a complex, integrated health care system composed of the Battle Creek VA Medical Center and multiple CBOCs in Wyoming, Lansing, Benton Harbor, and Muskegon, supporting services delivered to more than 44,000 Veterans across a 22-county region.
