This Maintenance Mechanic Leader is located in the Facility and Maintenance services at the VA Bedford Healthcare System in Bedford, MA. This position is full-time at 40 hours per week. This position serves as a Work Leader for Maintenance and Operations in accomplishing trades and labor work at the VA Bedford Healthcare System. The incumbent must possess the skills and knowledge to serves as team leader for the Electrical/HVAC trade activities of Engineering Service; They must be a fully qualified electrician at the WG-10 level and have HVAC experience. Duties include but not limited to: Familiarizes with both trades to ensure that projects are completed properly, satisfactorily, on time and on budget. Ensures that supplies and equipment for projects are safeguarded in areas to which he/she is assigned. Performs and leads the team members in trade duties to include the following, but not limited to; assisting the electricians, A/C mechanics, maintenance mechanics, maintenance workers, and maintenance helpers, ensuring that the quality and quantity of work performed meets established standards. Assists in the planning and scheduling under the direction of the supervisor, to oversee work from start to completion on all requests for data boxes, data cable pulls, data cable connections and punch down connections. Works with the IT department as to proper connection points in IT closets, wire labeling and port identification. IT will perform the programming and data set up for the customers. Observes the work performed to ensure that the work is being performed in accordance with established trade standards, and to avoid waste or damage to equipment and work areas. Issues equipment, supplies, and provides direction to employees in the proper usage thereof. Prepares equipment and supplies ensuring that proper equipment is on hand at all times so that unnecessary trips to the shop and central tool/parts storage and parts can be avoided. Assists in on-the-job training activities of employees in the proper use of trade techniques. Recommends employees which are in need of remedial training based on observations made in the work site. Inspects the assigned work area daily to ensure that work accomplished is done satisfactorily. Must have knowledge and be skilled with computers and work with a variety of programs such as Outlook, Word, Excel and VISTA. Other duties assigned.
