The primary purpose of the Licensed Practical/License Vocational Nurse (LPN/LVN) is to perform assigned duties in a manner that promotes quality health care, positive customer service, and the maintenance of an environment committed to serving the veteran. The LPN/LVN can provide clear communication and build relationships with patients, families, and team members to deliver comprehensive care to veterans at the Malcom Randall Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Gainesville, FL.
The LPN uses a systematic problem-solving process in the care of patients with chronic health care needs to provide individualized, goal-directed nursing care. The LPN assists in the identification of problems and formulation of goals, outcomes, and patient-centered plans of care that are developed in collaboration with patients, their families, and the interprofessional team. The LPN can participate in implementing established teaching plans and providing education to patients and their families. Duties include but are not limited to: Conscientious in upholding the philosophy, mission, and value statements of the medical center and objectives of the nursing profession. Demonstrates ability to serve as a responsible member of the nursing team and interacts in an appropriate manner with patients, family members, professional and other supportive personnel involved in the delivery of patient care, incorporating acceptable, established customer service standards into practice. Expects to exercise independent technical judgments in decision-making without readily available supervision, and to possess and apply a comprehensive working knowledge of the principles, art, and science of practical nursing. Assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient transition through the continuum of care, patient and family education, patient self-management, and supporting factors that impact customer satisfaction. Uses and navigates My HealtheVet secure messaging portals to expand patient communication and education. Adapts to work demands and numerous assignments. Serves as a preceptor in orienting, educating, and training less experienced LPNs/LVNs or others related to support duties. Performs other related duties as needed or assigned to support the functions of the service as assigned by the clinic RN or Nurse Manager. When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade). Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time off per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience. Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child. Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.
