The Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse for the Mental Health unit at the VA Medical Center in Northport, NY.
The primary purpose of the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is to perform assigned duties in a manner that promotes quality health care, positive customer service and the maintenance of an environment committed to serving the veteran. The LPN also performs assigned duties in a manner that promotes quality health care, outstanding customer service, and the maintenance of an environment committed to serving the veteran. The LPN performs within this functional statement under the guidance of the Nurse Manager or designee. Assigned tasks require basic technical competence and skill. The LPN is a full performance functional level for the LPN occupation. The LPN performs progressively complex age-specific nursing care for adult and geriatric inpatients within The MHRRTP/SARRTP/PTSD/PRRP Programs at Northport VAMC. The Veterans have a variety of physical, mental, behavioral, or psychosocial needs, which require increased judgement and independent action, according to assignment and training. The Licensed Practical Nurse is expected to communicate timely and effectively with all members of the patient care team, as well as relate courteously and appropriately to all internal and external customers. The Licensed Practical Nurse must be able to push-pull and lift 35 pounds and must be able to stand for prolonged periods of time. Finally, the Licensed Practical Nurse is expected to work in a collaborative, team-oriented environment, and demonstrate consistent effective communication skills and exemplary professional behaviors. Fostering positive interdisciplinary collaborative relationships is essential for continuity of care that is safe and quality driven. The Licensed Practical Nurse is also responsible and accountable for maintaining training required and may be assigned additional duties as area needs require. You must be a U.S. Citizen to apply for this job.
