The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is directly responsible to the professional nurse for providing direct care within his/her scope of practice. The LPN works under the direction of an RN. The LPN is responsible for observing, recording, and reporting changes in the patient's condition, as well as assisting in the development and revision of the patient-driven holistic life care plan. This position is located on 172-1E unit within the Community Living Center at the Marion Facility.

The LPN demonstrates active collaboration and communication with Core Interdisciplinary Team and coworkers involved in providing care to the patient. Major Duties Include But Not Limited To: Be technically proficient in initiating, performing, and completing assigned duties in providing care to variable patient populations. Use judgment in selecting the appropriate order and sequence of procedures and treatments Uses knowledge to appropriately carry out assigned patient care, with only a general review by the RN for the appropriateness and conformity of the care with established policies and procedures. Provides direct nursing care to veterans in a variety of healthcare settings. Demonstrating knowledge to provide a full range of practical nursing care to veterans with a variety of physical and/or behavioral problems. Demonstrating ability to serve as a responsible member of the health care team and interact with veterans, significant others, and co-workers. Documenting care provided, observations and responses on appropriate tools or forms. Observing changes in veteran's condition (e.g. behavior shifts, mood changes, skin coloring, appetite, medication side effects etc.) Assuring receipt of adequate nutritional intake either through observation, feeding or properly positioning and checking placement of feeding tube for the veteran. Administering medications, stoma care (e.g. tracheotomy, suctioning, colostomy), enemas, skin care, simple dressing, braces and prosthetic devices. Monitors intake and output according to established policy and procedure. Recognizing the veteran's autonomy and promoting independence by means of respect, limit setting and individualized treatment. Serves as team leader to a group of veterans and direct care staff, observing nursing care delivered and reporting concerns to the charge nurse. Reinforces medication education and age-related healthcare education to veterans in relations to common disease processes, medications, and/or prescribed treatment regimes. Do dressing. Work Schedule: Full-time 1. shift- Days with rotation-6am-2:30pm may include weekends and holidays 2. shift-Evenings: 4:00pm-Midnight may include weekends and holidays Recruitment/Relocation Incentives (Sign-on Bonus): Not Authorized Permanent Change of Station (Relocation Assistance): Not Authorized Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade). Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience. Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child. Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66. Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement) Telework: Not Available Virtual: This is not a virtual position.
