This position is located in the Farm Production and Conservation (FPAC) Business Center (BC), Information Services Division (ISD). The incumbent performs a variety of IT functions relating to implementing complex Information Security functionality for applications development, application software testing, and application operations; develops or revises security standards for applications development and support. Ensures the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of computer systems, and data through the planning, analysis, development, implementation, maintenance and enhancement of information systems security programs, policies, procedures and tools. Investigates security incidents, hacker attacks, attempted break-ins to network hardware and servers for cause and recommends most effective corrective actions. Keeps abreast of new technology (e.g., security products, software development tools and techniques) that have a bearing on security functions and evaluates their impact. Researches virus and intrusion violations and coordinates the resolution with telecommunications specialists and LAN administrators and emergency response team members as needed. Develops policies and procedures to ensure information systems reliability and accessibility and to prevent and defend against unauthorized access to systems, networks, and data. You must be a US Citizen or US National. Males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt. Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check. If selected, you may be sent instructions on obtaining fingerprints. As a condition of employment for accepting this position, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period during which we will evaluate your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest.
