The Fire Protection Section is responsible for fire prevention, fire protection and fire suppression activities for the partially wooded 350 acre Perry Point Medical Center campus consisting of approximately 180 buildings (Including 110 single family dwellings) with 1.6 million square feet of floor space and a two mile shoreline along the Susquehanna River. Major duties may include:Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic (Advanced Life Support) 50% Utilizes all sources of information to investigate and determine the nature of the persons illness or extent of emergency. Performs initial and continuous patient assessment, as well as physical examination to determine patient care methods. Take records and monitors patients vital signs. Fire Suppression/First Responder 25% Responsible for adhering to the established standard operating guidelines of the fire protection as established by the Fire Chief. Performs the daily inspection, testing and maintenance of two Medical Center owned fire apparatus, one rescue vehicle, one rescue boat, motor and trailer, and all associated equipment. Receives telephone reports of fire or other emergencies, initiates emergency response based on the information received and uses fire department radio communications equipment to effectively relay information concerning the emergency. Fire Safety Inspector 15% Conducts quarterly flow tests of wet dry pipe sprinkler systems and annual flow tests of fire hydrants, indentifyng and documenting deficiencies or impairments, and initiating action to assure correction. Conducts fire drills as assigned by the shift supervisor to evaluate employee knowledge of the fire plan and to identify those areas in need of improvement. Assist police service with unruly or combative patients. Hazardous Materials Operations 10% First responder to hazardous material incidents occurring on station and performs as a team member in determining the materials/ chemical involve, the degree of life hazard and potential environmental impact. Responds with the appropriate equipment to hazardous materials incidents in the surrounding communities.
