This position is located within the VISN 12 Great Lakes Finance Service (GLFS) located at the Clement J Zablocki VA Medical Center in Milwaukee, WI. The incumbent will serve under the direction of the Assistant Finance Officer as the Financial Accounts Technician and Travel Assistant. Receives, analyzes, and classifies all commitment and obligation documents and reviews them for validity of budget data, expenditure limitation, accounting data and proper authorization; verifies fund availability. Prepares correspondence concerning the status of outstanding obligations. Receives, analyzes and classifies all training/travel allotments and initiation documents; assigns appropriate account codes to set up accounts. Reviews computerized data output and verifies it with manual data; locates discrepancies, determines source of error and takes necessary remedial action. Enters data into the E-Travel Package, into Financial Management System (FMS), and/or into the necessary logbooks. Maintains and reconciles separate accounts for the Milwaukee VA Medical Center, HAIG, CWT, Vet Center and associated Product Lines. Backs up the Travel Coordinator: informs employees of policy changes, provides guidance on the travel software and how to complete travel forms. Provides assistance to the Budget Assistant in researching and racking questionable travel related funds. Serves as the central point of contact for all employee travel. Establishes Direct Deposit Enrollment for employee Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT). Performs timekeeping duties for GLFS in Milwaukee and other VISN 12 sites.
