The Law Department is currently seeking to fill an attorney position in the Procurement and Property Law Section. The successful candidate is an experienced commercial or governmental transactional attorney, preferably with litigation experience. The candidate should have experience drafting and reviewing complex agreements and advising clients on sophisticated transactions involving commercial, statutory, and regulatory considerations. Conducts legal research and prepares written material for use in representing the Postal Service and advising postal management officials. Participates in conferences necessary to representing or advising Postal Service officials. Directly advises postal management officials and represents the Postal Service in legal matters involving outside parties. Prepares replies to inquiries from Congress, government agencies, and the public. Prepares opinions, memoranda, decisions, regulations, testimonies, or formal filings in proceedings in which the Postal Service is a party. The selected attorney will also represent the Postal Service in a first-chair capacity in facilities-related disputes before the Postal Service Board of Contract Appeals and advise on the application of a variety of laws to federal property including state and local law, the National Historic Preservation Act, the Rehabilitation Act, and the Architectural Barriers Act, among others. The selected attorney will work closely with Postal management responsible for owned and leased facilities nationwide and will be expected to coordinate with government procurement, environmental, legal policy, and other attorneys as appropriate. Experience with matters involving real estate (leases, subleases, licenses, purchase and sale agreements, swaps, and property management agreements), intellectual property, government contracts, and commercial litigation is a plus. Candidates should demonstrate an ability to work independently on multiple projects. Alternatively, if the candidate does not have the required experience, the successful candidate must demonstrate excellence in the practice of law through a combination of education, training, and experience and the following requirements. The candidate must have a minimum of three years of legal experience in a leading firm or a corporate, federal, or state agency general counsel's office. Experience as a federal judicial clerk is a plus. The candidate must be an exceptional communicator who is capable of complex negotiations, working with a variety of clients, and multi-tasking. The candidate must have the ability to be a dealmaker, a team player, and possess proven initiative and follow through.
